Speak Spake Spoke, a project of the noted poet/author/spoken word performer Kirpal Gordon, combines classic jazz with great American poetry in a unique amalgamation of both art forms leading listeners into a new appreciation of how literature and music interact.
Currently the focus is on “I Hear America Singing: Walt Whitman & the Great American Songbook,” but other projects include “Come Sunday: A Tribute to Duke Ellington and Billie Strayhorn,” “Props for Pops: Louis Armstrong and the New American Poetry” and “Bebop & the Beat Generation.”
Working with musical director Amanda Monaco, SSS offers both extraordinary performance and educational activities that expose students of either discipline to the other and a uniquely original and highly effective manner.
